The St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of VelikoTarnovo is a Bulgarian university based in VelikoTarnovo. The university was established on 15 September 1963. It inherited the cultural andeducation traditions of Turnovo Literary School. In thefirst academic year, 25 professors, assistants andteachers came from universities in Sofia and theBulgarian Academy of Science. The first subjectswere Bulgarian Philology, Russian Philology, History and Art. Theuniversity was founded by Aleksandar Burmov and Penio Rusev.
